Art Collection of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences

Budapest, Magyar Tudományos Akadémia, 14 September 2018 Friday 10:00
Unique historic interiors of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences – consisting of the main hall and several meeting rooms – are open once a month to the public, the next date is the 14th of September (between 10AM and 9PM). This time a monograph about the history of the building will be launched as well.
The invaluable art works on display include the secco cycle by Károly Lotz representing the intellectual history of Hungary, as well as portraits of the most eminent personalities of the 19th century national (and institutional) history. As a temporary exhibit, a rediscovered marble fragment, once belonging to the bust of the emperor and king Franz Joseph, can be seen, as well. The vicissitudes of the sculpture illustrate the history of Hungary in the short 20th century.
