In the '90s James Cameron became interested in the heroine of Yukito Kishiro's manga. He participated in the scriptwriting, but as he had other pending projects he invited Robert Rodriguez to direct the film. Now the audience can see the result of collaboration between two cinematographers who both have a unique vision.
In a dystopian future a deactivated female cyborg (Rosa Salazar) is found by the mysterious Dr. Ido (Christoph Waltz). He revives her succesfully, but she cannot remember anything of her past life. So Alita starts to discover the world once again, she even falls in love, and also begins to search for her lost memories in order to find out who she is. Soon one thing becomes clear: Alita has supernatural fighting abilites, and she uses her superpower to make the world a better place. But before she could break the cycle of death and destruction she must transform into a relentless fighter herself.
