Green Book
Peter Farrelly, the director of 'Dumb and Dumber' has decided to make a less hilarious film this time, and the result is absolutely Academy Award-compatible, also thanks to the two excellent actors in the leading roles. No wonder that 'Green Book' is nominated for five Oscars.
The film is based on real events: In the '60s, African-American classical pianist Don Shirley had to set off for a concert tour in America, and he needed a driver who could also serve as a body-guard, as the situation could be difficult for a black musician in the Southern States. Italian-American Tony Lip was a perfect choice for this work. Though he was not as sophisticated as Don, he had a knack for solving uncomfortable situations, and, willy-nilly, the two had to get accustomed to the idea of traveling together. The title is due to the fact that they were armed with 'The Negro Motorist Green Book', a travel guide for safe travel through America's racial segregation. The film presents the unique connection between the two men, which slowly turns into a strange and unlikely friendship in spite of their differences.
