The legend of La Llorona (The Crying Woman) is a well-known part of Latin American folklore, people often use it to frighten mischievous children saying that the ghost will take them away if they don't behave well.
Anna, a widowed social worker is raising her two children in 1970s Los Angeles, and one day she is called to check in on one of her cases. She finds troubling signs of something very bad, and despite the warnings of the other mother she starts to investigate. As she digs deeper, she finds striking similarities between the case and the terrifying supernatural occurrences haunting her family. Soon she discovers that she awakened La Llorona's wrath and the creature will stop at nothing to take her children away. La Llorona, also known as the Weeping Woman, is a female ghost in Latin American folklore who lost her children and causes misfortune to those nearby. Anna's only hope is a disillusioned priest who may help her to save the kids and drive the ghost away.
