The Grinch

The latest version of the Grinch arrives in cinemas thanks to Illumination, which is probably the less experimental company among the four biggest animation studios (Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, Illumination) so there won't be any big surprise for us in the story of the grumpy green Christmas saboteur.
As for the storyline, this film is not so different from the popular Jim Carrey-version (of course it is a lot more kid-friendly and less scary): the Grinch is a lonely, wounded soul who wraps himself into grumpiness and cynism (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch). He can't forget the sad time he spent in the orphanage, and he resents the happiness of the Whos, so he decides to steal their Christmas. But it only takes a kind-hearted little girl for the Grinch to realize that warmth lurks beneath his green and hairy outside. To sum it up we get a correct and entertaining family film with cute animals and catchy tunes but without much invention or originality.
