Here comes the next Disney live action remake, telling the well known story of a simple boy who, helped by a friendly genie, overcomes the wicked wizard and wins the heart of a beautiful princess.
Director Guy Ritchie's family-friendly remake certainly doesn't lack action, romance and fun, though the film couldn't fully capture the magic of the original animation. The script is dynamic, the songs are catchy, Will Smith does a great job at reinterpreting the genie's character after the unforgettable animated version voiced by Robin Williams. Sometimes the CGI looks a bit cheap and Mena Massoud's presence on the screen feels a bit bland, but still, it is a magical and slightly nostalgic cinema experience for the whole family.
