Buck, a spoiled pet from sunny California is captured and sold as a sled dog during the Klondike gold rush in the Yukon. He is abused and beaten, but soon he learns how to work together with his team. His life changes forever when he meets John Thornton, a lonely, grieving man.
Those who have read the classic novel of Jack London will probably know that this adventure fim can't capture the essence of the original story. These deep, poignant, often shocking writings are not always fit for the big screen, so the fans of London's books will be rather disappointed with this adaptation. Is it targeted to older or younger age groups? Hard to tell, as for children it may feel too sad and violent sometimes, while the grown-ups may find the script too superficial and the CGI dog very unreal. One can't help missing the interaction that would be possible with a living animal. Still, for those who have never heard of the book, the film might pass as an afternoon matinee with the family, if the kids are not too small. Harrison Ford brings grizzled dignity to his role, while his 'canine co-star' keeps pushing his limits and discovering his most primordial instincts.
